We are a small outdoor footwear company creating premium quality minimalist sandals with the belief that we can create positive change for our environment and culture. Bedrock Sandals was founded by two geologists in Northern California with a shared passion for the outdoors, minimalist lifestyles, and running. We manufacture Bedrock Sandals in the USA with high grade materials and minimalist designs to create exceptional footwear that we stand behind 100%. From High Sierra alpine trails all the way down to the streets of Oakland, we wear the products we make.
Bedrock Sandals officially got Kickstarted in June 2011 with an original sandal model. Today we are based in Oakland, California and are proud to build Bedrock Sandals locally in our small Tree Fort Inspired Workshop. We design and build our sandals with the peaceful beauty of our favorite trails in mind. Each year we donate one percent of our sales to help conserve and restore the environment through 1% for the Planet. In March 2013, after two years of improving and refining our sandal technology and materials, we introduced our "We Got You Covered" Rock Solid Warranty. Dan Opalacz (Co-Founder)
Dan is a nomad who for the past 1.5 years lived in his 86' Subaru Powered VW Vanagon while traveling around North America, living simply, and always searching for new trails, fly fishing streams, and surf spots. In January 2014, in search for a new minimalist adventure, Dan bought a small sailboat that he lives on in the Bay Area.
Dan went minimalist his senior year in college after a foot injury and hasn't looked back to shoes since. Follow Dan's instagram @specialopz for photos of his travels and Bedrock Adventures. Dan runs the Bedrock social outlets, website, and customer experience. If you email or call us you'll likely hear from him! Dan also builds tumblrs and blogs for the fine folks at Patagonia.
Nick Pence (Co-Founder)
Nick is an artist, geologist, and craftsman who runs sandal production at Bedrock Sandals Headquarters. He has a love for all things simple, useful, and mechanical and designs Bedrock Sandals with these very principles in mind. Nick has a knack for trail running and you may find him with a smile on his face running around the hills in Oakland or Charlottesville, Virginia. Nick believes deeply in environmental conservation and protection and is in charge of our giving to 1% For The Planet environmental non-profits.
Naresh Kumar (Bedrock Runner and Mile Logger)
Naresh is an ultra marathon athlete who likes to run far in Bedrock Sandals. Naresh finished the Vol State 500 Kilometer race unassisted in first place - a feat that took him 5 days. A true minimalist at heart Naresh runs and lives simply. You can thank him for all the testing miles he puts on Bedrock Sandals as we continue to improve them. Watch Naresh run 120 smokey miles along the John Muir trail and learn about how he started running minimalist. Follow him @iamarunr on instagram.
Clay Harding (Sandal Cobbler and Designer)
Clay is a Bedrock Sandal craftsman and runner who finds his inner peace from the solitude of the trail and strength gained through distance running. With a background in Marketing and Environmental Studies Clay considers himself a full fledged digital business hippie. He finds inspiration in a hot cup of coffee and knowing that he is helping awesome people gear up for their adventures. Follow Clay on Instagram.
